Wow it was an amazing ride these few weeks went by super fast but it was totally worth. Aaron and I earned a total of 9 medals. Our goal was to place in lots of wrestling tournaments and win 1st place every time or at least third. Well we accomplished that that goal. I am very proud of my partner Aaron and myself. Especially all the coaches that helped us through this 1 month journey. Something we could have worked harder on would be training and focusing a little more because we would just laugh a little and not pay attention as much as we should. Although at first i thought this was going to be a dumb project but at the end of the day it was really really fun!

Personal Narrative
I was super nervous it felt like i had a gun against my temple. When i got the news that i was going to wrestle for the first time i got excited but at the same time i got really nervous. My coach told me i was going to wrestle a 6'1 185 lb african male. When he told me that i had pooped my pants. I thought to myself should i give up wrestling? Should i even try? This guy was huge! I was only 5'8 170 i was super small compared to him. I had to gain lots of weight, i had to gain 15 lb. To me that was a lot i had to eat a lot in under 4 weeks. The news spread out to all my buddies at Team Reign. They look at me and laughed behind my back. Well i think they should because later on i found out that this guy had won 3rd place in CIF tournament. This was going to be impossible. I was only training with kids who just smoked and got higher than the empire state building they didnt care about wrestling. I had gained 15 pounds in 2 weeks. I was training my butt off super hard. I woke up i thought to myself what a wonderful world.. But wait what? I was in the hospital. I guess i had exceeded the limit of training. My coach told me hey man you gotta slow down you passed out wrestling Gabe. Gabe? Oh my gosh i had wrestled and beaten Gabe. Gabe had 2 CIF titles. And hid parents had him in wrestling before he could even walk. From that day on i knew i was going to beat Roy in under a week. To be my first match this was going to be more harder than getting a girl. I finally thought to myself the impossible was going to happen. I stood proudly on the podium my eye was swollen but how this was wrestling not some MMA fight. I stood in the middle taller than the two men beside me. That day i had earned my first Gold Medal.

Response To Literature
In the article Wrestling--- High School Style by Lieutenant-Colonel Wayne Kirkbride he gave his opinion on high school wrestling he said to give high school wrestling a chance and put the WWE and other organizations to the side. When lieutenant said that i felt like somebody was finally was understanding me because when you talk to a person about wrestling automatically they think WWE. Honestly WWE is fake and it just comes down to really really good acting. Because WWE is all acting i got respect for them because it takes big heart to come down the ramp hop over the ropes and fake everything that goes on there. To be honest both sports take lots of training. In wrestling you have to train for those takedowns and be cut clean. In WWE you have to be very big and just knoe how to act, but sometimes in WWE the athletes actually do get hurt so thats the downfall of doing a sport that involves real cut clean acting with no holes in your game.

Freeballing or Not?
Freeball or not thats the question. Freeballing is the term used when a wrestler doesnt want to where underwear under his singlet. In our team this is a highly debated subject. About 8 kids on our team freeball and the rest either think it is gross or uncomfortable. Freebaling is confortable and
Freeballing is confortable however to some people it is just very unsanitary. Basically if you freeball you are not wearing any underwear and your package is in sight for everyone to see. In my opinion i hate freeballing for the reason being that i would be very embarrassed if my package was showing in plain sight for people to see. Wrestlers who freeball feel more loose and more athletic. Loose meaning that you feel faster and more flexable.
Freeballing supposedly makes you faster and connects your takedowns better, however with underwear on its a possiblility that you wont pull your hamstring. Without underwear theres no limit to how far your stretching can go but if u wear under your underwear can limit to your stretching so there would not be any hamstring injuries invloved. I think freeballing does not make you faster it is judt psychologically in your brain and makes you think something else that is not true.
In conclusion to me freeballing is stupid and just not worth your package showing. Although lots of pros freeball it does not mean it will make you a better fighter its all in your head however you approach the idea. Freeball or not?

5th week
This week and last week we learned all about interviews. Although we knew just a little bit about them we knew that you have to dress appropriate be assertive and know your stuff. On Tuesday May 14, 2013 at 5:40 we met up with our mentor Nick Jordan at Reign training center. We interviewed him and he was cool with us recording the coversation and using it for school purposes.
Nick Jordan was a division one wrestler in college. Wrestled up in Sacramento but went to school down here at cal state university of Fullerton. Also learning at reign he took up mma and now he's a professional fighter working to be in the UFC. While also being a wrestling coach at mission and working at a restaurant in Dana point his professional record is currently 1-1. With a fight coming up on the thirty first of this month.
Me: So what got you into wrestling?
Nick: Well i was freshman in highschool and i saw these group of kids sweating and i thought to my self wow this is harder than football. So the next day i went and talked to them and they told me to join.
Me: Were you a decent wrestler or very elite?
Nick: Uhm to be honest you know when you start trying something new you're not good at it. Well i completly sucked at wrestling until i met Mark Muños a former UFC fighter.
Me: Was it a good thing meeting Mark Muños?
Nick: All i gotta say is from the day i met him when i was a junior in high school i was a whole new different person. I was a new me. I new how to wrestle very very good i was winming 1st place everytime and nlw that I am a coach i feel determined to help kids with wrestling just how i got helped.
Me: What made you try out Mix Martial Arts?
Nick: At the time when i was a junior and barely got to know Mark he introduced me to this world of kicking and grappling. I though to myself wow this is just amazing. One day he invited me to his house because he had ordered a UFC PPV and from that day forward MMA inspired me.
Me: What made you go pro?
Nick: What made me go pro was just dreaming one day to actually participate in the UFC with Dana White. I just cant wait one day to get that phone call from the President of the UFC, Dana White telling me that he wants me in his company.
4th week
This week we decided to mix it it up a little bit. We applied for some kickboxing classes. Although I do kickboxing my friend Aaron doesnt know the ways yet. But trust he will soon and when he does he will kick some booty. Wrestling is more harder than kickboxing because wrestling involves more athletisism. You are on the ground the whole time and it can get fustrating at times. Kickboxing involves more thinking and precision once you see an open spot you got to take the advantage and strike the hardest that you can while exhaling hard.

3rd Week
This week in our wrestling project we trained super hard because we were going to have a tournament on saturday. Even though its just a random tournament it doesnt matter we want to complete our goal of winning lots of 1st place medals. On thursday we were at the mpr the whole day literly presenting our 20% project to all grades at MVHS. Although it was very exhausting what we could have done differently was interact with people better and choose a different spot. Where we were located it was very small and little space. Also our poster could have been way better because our poster had very little pictures and information.

2nd week
This week we actually trained twice a day it was really hard can barely keep up. We trained Monday-Thursday twice a day. The coaches were really surprised to see us train really hard. They knew something was up. They decided to help us even more! I dont know if that was a good or bad idea because for the next few days it was hell! Man it was the hardest wrestling i have ever done. We were wrestling with like 20 year olds that were pretty fat. Wrestling is a form of combat sport involving grappling type techniques such as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds. You cannot punch or kick or it will result in a penalty. There are different types of wrestling the one that is probably comman is colligient.
1st week
This week Mr. Moriates tolf us that we would be doing a project. He said that our phones and electronic devices would be invloved. Me and my buddie Aaron got really excited that we almost squirted the water bottles we were holding. I knew theres was going to be a catch to this whole cell phone device thing once a week and it wasnt going to be a nice easy project. Me and my friend Aaron decided to do our project on wrestling. We decided to try and win more and more 1st place medals on saturday tournaments therefore we have to practice more and more.
